This week, nearly 200 high school students, educators, and volunteers from across Oregon are participating in Team Oregon Build – Camp Ready2Respond, a five-day immersive summer camp focused on disaster preparedness, workforce development, and community resilience.

Over the course of four nights and five days, participants are learning what it takes to respond to wildfires, floods, and other community emergencies while constructing up to 20 fire-hardened response shelters for rural and remote communities throughout Oregon. Students are also gaining hands-on experience in emergency management, communications, culinary operations, safety, and disaster recovery scenarios.

The week concludes with the Ready2Respond Showcase on Thursday, June 25, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Knife River Corporation Training Center in Albany. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour a fully operational student-led basecamp, meet the students behind the project, and see firsthand how education, industry, workforce development, and emergency management partners are working together to prepare Oregon’s next generation of leaders.
