Nurturely’s Birthworker Business Hub: a Health Equity and Workforce Sustainability Program

Lane Workforce Partnership is excited to highlight the ongoing success of Nurturely’s Birthworker Business Hub: a Health Equity and Workforce Sustainability Program, funded by HOWTO through the Oregon Health Authority. Launched two years ago, this impactful project has already trained 32 birthworkers and continues to develop a multicultural perinatal lounge—a hub for perinatal care, professional community building, and Doula workforce development. The initiative focuses on providing equitable, inclusive care for all families, with a strong emphasis on Doula certification, workforce sustainability, and equity-focused training.

Thanks to the $999,956 HOWTO grant, Nurturely is on track to train 60 Doulas over the grant period. The Birthworker Business Hub offers essential resources such as business development, mentoring, and professional growth opportunities, empowering birthworkers to succeed in both community-based and hospital-based employment. This initiative continues to address health care workforce shortages in underserved communities across Oregon.
